The Africa Coastal Odyssey expedition country sequence by year, as listed below, is a general itinerary guide and may be adjusted. However, the Odyssey teams’ GPS position will be plotted on this website once the journey gets underway, so you can join the team for a walk along the coastline at any point.

Year 1: Western South Africa to Namibia

Expedition dates: mid-March – mid-September (±6 months at 15km per day)
Countries: South Africa and Namibia
Distance walked: 2,712 km miles (1,685 miles)

Year 2: Angola to Gabon and the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe

Expedition dates: mid-January to mid-August (±7 months at 15km per day)
Countries: Angola, DRC, Congo Republic, Gabon, São Tomé and Príncipe.
Distance walked: 2,904 km (1,804 miles)

Year 3: Equatorial Guinea to Liberia

Expedition dates: mid-January to mid-July (±6 months at 20km per day)
Countries: Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, and Liberia

Year 4: Sierra Leone to Mauritania

Expedition dates: mid-January to mid-July (±6 months at 20km per day)
Countries: Sierra Leone, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, The Gambia, Cape Verde, and Mauritania.
