Day 28: Kommetjie to Noordhoek

We left Sartorial House Self Catering Studios in Simons Town this morning to drive to Kommetjie. We actually started todays leg of my Walk 4 SOS Huskies journey from the same Kommetjie Long Beach spot that we ended off at yesterday.

Except that today it’s overcast and it started raining just as we arrived on the beach. Before we went to the beach, the Fossil checked us in at the pet-friendly Happy Home in Imhoffs Gift where we’re staying tonight. But more about that later.

So, I started walking the Fossil along that beautiful long stretch of beach towards Noordhoek. And then the wind came up. And I don’t mean a gentle breeze – this wind was blowing at 54 km/h – with gusts that blew the Fossil right off his feet! And the rain? That felt like we were being fired at with buckshot!

I’m better designed to withstand this kind of foul weather, but the Fossil isn’t. “That’s it,” he said after we’d walked to about where those houses are in the above pic. “We’re heading back before I’m completely sand blasted!”.

And that, dear readers, is why there’s no more pics. The Fossil was worried about getting his Samsung phone wet, like it did when we walked in rain on Day 7 of my journey from Wilderness to George. He had to get the phone fixed when we got to Hermanus and that delayed my journey by a whole day.

Anyway, he did drive us around to the Noordhoek side of Long Beach where he took the above pic when the rain eased off a bit (but the wind didn’t).

So, we drove back to Happy Home at Imhoffs Gift in Kommetjie. Fortunately, the Fossil had unpacked our stuff when we’d arrived earlier so he didn’t have to carry everything in the rain.

As you can see from the pic above, it wasn’t raining when we arrived this morning. Wow, I sure was happy running around the huge garden at Happy Home. Maybe that’s how they came up with name – from watching their guests dogs run around?

At least I got to sniff around the garden this morning before the rain came :-).

Our Happy Home room is really comfy but it got a bit cramped after the Fossil asked for a desk and chair to be brought in so he can do my blog posts on his iMac. There’s actually four rooms here; the Protea Suite, Cherry Blossom Suite, Fynbos Room, and the Magnolia Room, where we’re staying.

Besides the kitchen, guests at Happy Home can use any of the amenities, which include two lounge areas, access to satellite TV, WiFi and a comfortable outdoor braai area that overlooks the swimming pool. And, of course, the big garden when it’s not raining.

There’s a lot of other things that people can do around Happy Home on a rainy day. Like Imhoff’s Farm, where there’s restaurants, delis, a snake park, camel rides, a petting zoo and shops selling local arts and crafts. That’s where I saw the donkeys when we walked past it yesterday.

That’s it for today. Thanks for reading and sharing Husky loving folks!
