Day 22: Pringle Bay to Rooi Els

I had a grooming session today! The nice ladies at The Dog Ladies (that’s Nusca Michéla and Jenney Spykerman holding my leash outside their shop in Kleinmond) sponsored this for me after the Fossil explained my Walk 4 SOS Huskies journey.

And they really are “Dog Ladies”! No, not in looks – I mean the way they handled me, by being very patient and gentle. I really enjoyed being pampered, although that hairdryer thing is kinda weird. When I left, they even gave me a present – some delicious doggy biscuits!

Anyway, here’s the story about our walk from Pringle Bay to Rooi Els that never happened today. Why? Ask the Fossil. “Because there’s no way to walk along the coastline between these two points – it’s cliff-face all the way”, he says. We found the entrance to a dirt road that runs along the top of the mountain as shown in the Google Maps pic below, but it was closed off with a gate and a sign reading “Private Property”. At least there wasn’t a ‘No Dogs Allowed’ sign!

So the Fossil drove our Mahindra PIKUP around the mountain via the R44 to see if there’s a way to walk on the other side. Well, there isn’t.

There’s a nice looking sign set in a garden of indigenous plants that reads “Rooi Els Conservancy”. That’s just before the bridge crosses over the Rooiels River along Clarence Drive and the Fossil pulled into a ‘Lookout Point’ on the other side to take a pic of the beach below.

I guess we’ll get to know Clarence Drive more intimately when we walk from Rooi Els to Gordon’s Bay. But that’s another story. Thanks for reading and sharing Husky loving folks!

Wanna talk to us? Wanna host us? WhatsApp the tall fossil hanging onto my leash. Here’s Des’s number: +27 (0)82 374 7260. We’d love to hear from you!

JAXX

PS. That extra X on the end of my name is supposed to be a kiss (yeah, I know it’s soppy).

BTW: if you happen to be in or near near Cape Town on Sunday 29 August 2021, why not join us? We’ll be walking the final leg of my journey from Hout Bay to Mouile Point at the V&A Waterfront. So, join us! Come say “Howzit Husky Boy!”
