Day 15: Gansbaai to Hermanus

Today, my Walk 4 SOS Huskies journey came to a dead stop! That’s ’cause the Fossils cell phone battery went flat and wouldn’t charge. Thankfully, the rain had stopped so we left our sheltered overnight spot under somebodies holiday-home car port at De Kelders in Gansbaai and drove to Hermanus to find a mobile phone repair shop.

After dropping the phone off for repair, we popped in to visit Annika Du Toit at Hermanus Tourism Bureau and see if she could find pet-friendly host for us. “You really picked a bad time to arrive,” she said. “Well, a good time for tourism in Hermanus but a bad time to find a pet-friendly host because everyone’s full for the weekend. It’s the start of our popular Whale Watching Season!”. But that didn’t stop her from bombing a bulk email out to members. “Come back later and we’ll see if anyone responds,” she said. Annika even offered to buy the Fossil lunch at Cafe Blu around the corner – how’s that for hospitality!

So, we spent the rest of the day walking around the Hermanus foreshore. While we were walking, I picked up the scent of something strange and nearly pulled the Fossil over the cliff trying to chase it! Turns out it was a Dassie (or Cape Rock Hyrax) as the Fossil informed me. There’s lot’s of them here!

Anyway, there’s no pics for todays post ’cause of the broken phone and the repair guy says he’ll only get the part tomorrow so we need to come back then.

Well, we went back to see Annika over at Hermanus Tourism but nobody had replied to her request for hosting us. By then, the Fossil had found a picnic site while driving around Grotto Beach and Annika said we’d be safe there. So, that’s where we slept – in the Mahindra PIKUP with me on the comfy back seat and the Fossil wedged in the bakkie bin. At least it didn’t rain :-).

That’s all for now Husky loving folks!

Wanna talk to us? Wanna host us? WhatsApp the tall fossil hanging onto my leash. Here’s Des’s number: +27 (0)82 374 7260. We’d love to hear from you!

JAXX

PS. That extra X on the end of my name is supposed to be a kiss (yeah, I know it’s soppy).

BTW: if you happen to be anywhere along our walking route between Plettenberg Bay and Cape Town during late July to mid-August 2021, look out for us. We’ll be walking along the beach (or not), or on a hiking trail (unlikely), or along the side of a town road (most likely) – but definitely not along the N2 motorway! Come over to say “Howzit Husky Boy!” (and ” Hello Fossil Man” if you want).
